A straightforward service from start to finish
How Our PAT Testing Service Works
Whether you manage a rental property or a busy workplace, SGE makes electrical appliance inspection and testing simple, with clear communication and useful records.
Book
Tell us where the appliances are located and approximately how many need checking. We'll confirm the price and arrange a convenient visit.
Inspect & Test
Our trained tester carries out visual inspections and appropriate electrical tests, taking account of the equipment and its intended use.
Identify & Record
We identify the appliances tested, record the results and apply suitable identification or status labels where appropriate.
Receive Your Report
You'll receive an electronic report detailing the appliances inspected and tested, their results and any issues identified.
What Happens if an Appliance Fails?
We record the defect, clearly advise the customer and identify equipment that should not remain in use. Unsafe appliances should be disconnected or taken out of service by an authorised person until repaired or replaced. Any repair or replacement work is quoted separately.
Inspection and testing intervals depend on the type of equipment, its environment and how it is used. PAT testing is not automatically required every year, and it does not replace an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for fixed wiring.
Fixed-price local packages and quotations for larger commercial sites.
Helpful advice from SGE
PAT Testing: Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers for landlords, letting agents, schools, offices and businesses. Not sure what your premises need? Our team can help you plan a practical inspection and testing programme.
Is PAT testing a legal requirement?
UK health and safety law requires electrical equipment used at work to be maintained in a safe condition. It does not generally prescribe an annual PAT test for every appliance. Appropriate inspection and testing depend on the equipment, its use and the environment.
How often should appliances be tested?
There is no single interval suitable for every appliance. Frequency should reflect risk, including the type of equipment, how frequently it is moved or used, the working environment and previous inspection findings. Some items may need frequent visual checks; others may require less frequent formal testing.
Do landlords need PAT testing?
Responsibilities depend on the type of tenancy, the property and the applicable legislation. Landlords should ensure any electrical appliances they provide are safe. PAT inspection and testing can help demonstrate that appliances are being maintained appropriately. We can discuss a sensible approach for furnished properties and HMOs.
What happens if an appliance fails?
We record the defect, identify the appliance and notify the responsible person. Equipment considered unsafe should be taken out of use until repaired or replaced and, where appropriate, retested. Repairs and replacement appliances are not included in the standard PAT testing package.
Is PAT testing the same as an EICR?
No. PAT testing concerns electrical appliances and their leads, while an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) assesses the fixed electrical installation, such as circuits, wiring and distribution equipment. SGE can help with both services.
What will I receive after testing?
Our standard service includes appropriate visual checks and tests, appliance identification, test labels and an electronic report recording the results. Any failed or defective items will be clearly identified for your attention.
Can you test just a few appliances?
Yes. Our introductory local packages start at £49 + VAT for up to 10 standard accessible appliances at one property in Bexley, Greenwich, Dartford and surrounding areas. Larger packages and portfolio bookings are also available.
Can you test appliances across several sites?
Yes. We can coordinate visits for letting agents, managing agents, schools and businesses with multiple properties or locations. Contact us with approximate appliance numbers and site details for a tailored quotation.
Guidance is general and does not replace a site-specific risk assessment or advice on particular legal duties. Testing is carried out as appropriate to the equipment and circumstances.
